The bronze body is hand hammered with 4 lines of the Tibetan mantra of compassion, Om Mani Padme Hum. This mantra invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion.
The top of the wheel can opened to reveal large paper scrolls inside that contain this repeated mantra. When the wheel is turned clockwise, it sends the prayers to the universe thereby generating good karma. Buddhist also believes that by spinning the well, it helps to concentrate the mind on the mantras and the prayers they are reciting.
