Wood turning is an art in Bhutan. Each bowl is hand carved by artisan that have received knowledge from their ancestors, or that have been trained at the National Institute for Zorig Chusum. The School of the thirteen Arts and Crafts of Bhutan.

Traditionally, wooden bowl are used to serve food among Bhutanese household. Monks are even require to eat in Dhapa and drink from Phob.
